Roger Eliot Fry (1866 - 1934): oil on canvas, Garden in Cassis (believed to feature Virginia Woolf seated), with Philip Mould and other gallery labels verso, image 64 x 79 cm, overall 80 x 95 cm.

Fry was an English painter and critic, and a member of the Bloomsbury Group. Establishing his reputation as a scholar of the Old Masters, he became an advocate of more recent developments in French painting, to which he gave the name Post-Impressionism. Fry's efforts significantly increased the profiles of artists such as Cézanne, Gauguin, and van Gogh.
