Victorian 2nd Bn West Yorkshire Regiment attributed Officer's helmet A good example of the 1878 Home Service pattern blue cloth helmet attributed to Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Morey Boyall DSO, who was wounded during both the Boer War and Great War and was also taken POW.
The helmet is of the regulation pattern, to the front a Victorian helmet plate with regimental device and silver tri-part scroll THE WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. The interior with crimson silk topped leather sweatband and tailors details of Hawkes & Co. Original paper label with ink name BOYALL 2 W Yorkshire. Overall GC slight age wear. Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Morey Boyall DSO was commissioned into the Second Battalion and whilst serving with the Battalion during the Boer War was wounded on the 27th February 1900. Recovering he remained with the Regiment and at the time of start of the Great War he was a Captain with the 1st Bn, landed in France September 1914. He was wounded in October 1914. He was awarded the DSO and was reported a POW in March 1918.
