A large Japanese earthenware Kutani dish
Meiji period (1868-1912), finely painted with a feasting scene with four noblemen and their attendants in a fenced garden, beneath rocky outcrops with a gnarled fir tree and shrubs, the border painted with stylised floral and foliate reserves on a dense wrigglework ground, the exterior painted with three phoenix in flight, signed with nine character mark, 36.5cm diameter, hairline cracks.
Glaze crazing and some discolouration to the crazing to the well of the dish and also heavy glaze crazing to the exterior. Minor gilt wear. Hairline to rim, long y-shaped hairline to base and another across the outside of the bowl just above the foot.
