WW1 Period Royal Navy Attributed Officer's Sword. A clean example retailed through Alfred Shannon of Devonport The blade etched with a GVR cypher and crowned fouled anchor device. The solid gilt metal guard with crowned device, this engraved with the name MACKENZIE DALLAS RN. White shagreen grip surmounted by a lion's head pommel. Housed in leather scabbard with gilt metal mounts. Etching to blade clear. Gilt mounts have been polished. Attributed to Engineering Lieutenant Commander Dallas Mackenzie, who was commissioned from Warrant rank in 1914 and was Mentioned in Despatches for his service onboard HMS Malaya during the Battle of Jutland. In 1918 he was serving as acting Lt Cdr onboard HMS Radstock.
