A FINE MURUT TYPE SWORD AND SCABBARD FROM NORTHERN BORNEO. With a 65cm curved steel blade with a sharpened edge and tally type markings to the back of the blade, with a smooth brass grip and carved two-pronged top, in an elaborate hardwood scabbard with brass bindings and shallow carved decoration, mounted with animal skin backing and hair ornament. 83cm overall. An unusual variant of the more regularly encountered Dyack Head Hunting sword from Borneo, of a type associated with the Murut people.
A Souvenir obtained by a British serviceman whose helicopter was brought down by poor weather forcing him to spend time in this region f Borneo. *CR Splits to the scabbard, possible loss to the end.
