***ADDITIONAL LOT*** A PAIR OF IRISH GEORGE IV ROSEWOOD LIBRARY CHAIRS BY WILLIAMS AND GIBTON scroll backs on turned legs Williams and Gibton, the Dublin firm active from 1830 to 1844, evolved from the earlier partnership of Mack, Williams, and Gibton, formed around 1811-1812. The firm prospered under this name until the death of John Mack in 1829. Known for their use of fine timbers and high-quality craftsmanship, their work is often likened to that of Gillows of Lancaster and London. A pair of library chairs attributed to them, like much of their furniture, draws inspiration from designs published by Thomas Hope and George Smith. The original partners, John Mack and Robert Gibton, were listed individually in Dublin directories from 1784 and 1790, respectively, and seem to have partnered in 1803. Appointed as 'Upholsterers & Cabinet Makers to His Majesty, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant, and His Majesty's Board of Works' in 1806, the firm maintained this Royal Warrant for many years, supplying and restoring furniture for key public buildings in Ireland, including the Four Courts, Dublin Castle, Collins Barracks, and Áras an Uachtaráin.
