A good, large c 1890’s bone fan, mounted with a deep silk leaf, painted with an informal gathering of friends for a picnic, music and dancing being enjoyed, the recto painted with an unusual scene inside a bullring, where the hidalgo, on a white horse, appears to be offering a key to two matadors, the monture carved with a Spanish male figure, painted and inset with slivers of mother of pearl, the gorge painted with a matador, the profile of a horse and one of a bull, with other accoutrements of a bullring, guard approx. 33cm; together with a wood fan with ruby painted sticks, the double paper leaf in gold, with a scene inside the ring showing the matador in his decorated costume and other participants, their costumes covered in glitter, guard approx. 29.5 cm; A much earlier bone fan with shaped sticks, the double paper leaf lithographed, the central cartouche showing a bullfight, the side vignettes showing two figures on horseback, the reserves with smaller depictions of horses and bulls in profile, hats and weapons.; together with two tourist fans, one showing flamenco dancers, and a black machine lace fan for a child (6)
The first fan is in good order with one gorge stick requiring relocation. The second fan is in good order. The other fan has slight loss to the paper leaf and some minor splitting.
