A MAGNIFICENT PAIR OF TAXIDERMY MALE AND FEMALE GOLDEN EAGLES BY JOHN MACPHERSON AND SONS, INVERNESS DATED 28/04/1946

149cm x 89cm x 49cm

Provenance: Removed from Cairnmore House, Port Ellen, Isle of Islay. Cairnmore House was in 1946 the residence of the estate manger of the Kildalton Estate with at that time owned approximately half of the island of Islay. The owner of the estate was John Ramsey.

It is reasonable to assume that these eagles were taken from the high ground of the estate sometime in late 1945 or early 1946 and sent to John Macpherson and Sons for taxidermy. The record of the stuffing book provided by the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery confirms that they were commissioned on 28th April 1946. It is assumed that John MacDonald, the chief taxidermist, completed the job.
