Two bottles of Ruchottes-Chambertin, 1986
Ruchottes-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's lesser known grand cru sites, just north of the famous Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos-de-Beze vineyards. Like its more prestigious neighbours, Ruchottes-Chambertin is planted to Pinot Noir, making wines that are little bit leaner in style than the rich, structured wines Gevrey-Chambertin is known for.
Ruchottes-Chambertin was confirmed as a grand cru site in 1937, along with all the sites touching the Le Chambertin vineyard. As is the custom in Burgundy, Ruchottes took the name of its more-famous neighbour for the added prestige, as did the village of Gevrey-Chambertin itself.
All wines cellared since release in owner’s cellar and the first time they have moved since 1991 is on their journey to our auction rooms.
