SOMALILAND CAMPAIGN - 4th EXPEDITION - INGOING COVER EX G.B. WITH "F.P.O. No.44/45" C.D.S.'s, ETC.: Remarkable 20 May 1903 env. (opened out for display with overall toning; 17 backstamps!) from Winchester with KEVII 1d tied by fine cds to a Royal Lancs. Regiment Captain in "Somaliland, Africa" but with numerous redirection endorsements on the front - "Not at Bothole", "Try at Burao", "Mombasa", "Try Berbera", "Zomba", "Deceased", etc. There are also numerous backstamps incl. ADEN, ZOMBA, CHINDE, BASE OFFICE/BERBERA (4), "F.P.O. No.44" (9 June + 4 Nov.), "F.P.O. No.45" (12 July & 5 ?), etc. Fascinating item needing further research to discover the exact route that it took. Rare item with both FPO 44 & 45 marks.
