A MID 19TH CENTURY ROYAL ENGINEERS, DRIVERS SWORD.
Also known as a 'German Sword Cavalry Universal, 1889 Pattern. The sword with a curved blade with spear point and fullers, with various marks include S&K for Schinitzler and Kirschbaum who traded between 1811 and 1865, with British Board of Ordnance inspectors stamp for Liege c1860, German marks, crown over F.W., also with 'sold out of service' marks. Steel pommel and backstrap, wooden grips replaced. Lacking scabbard, blade 88cm, 101cm overall.
