19th Century Anglo-Chinese School. A Three Masted Sailing Vessel, Oil on linen, 18" x 23.5" (45.7 x 59.7cm). Notes: The ship's flags reveal her to be the Clan Mackenzie of 1,597 gross registered tons, official number 86731, which was built of iron by the celebrated R. Duncan & Co., also of Glasgow, in 1882. In 1909 Clan Mackenzie was sold to Norwegian owners, who renamed her Majorka, as which she was sunk by a German submarine in August, 1917.
