Facsimile reprint of the first edition of 1755 London, Longmans, 1990 2 vols. folio, 1160 pages in each vol. on attractive “cream laid & wood free paper, long life”, title pages in red and black, publisher’s rich plum red leather, spines with gilt decorated panels and green leather title labels, as new in the publisher’s strong matching plum cloth bound slip case (also as new). Loosely inset as issued are two accompanying booklets, one with two introductory essays on the history and importance of the dictionary, and the other with a facsimile reprint of a rare publication of 1747 by Johnson outlining his ‘Plan of a Dictionary’.
