Corporal James Nuttall a native of Bury volunteered on the 3rd September 1914 into the 1/5th (Bury) Bn of the Lancashire Fusiliers. He embarked for the Middle East and landed at Gallipoli on the 5th May 1915. Suffering from dysentery he was evacuated on the 2nd September 1915 and was sent back to England. Returning to Egypt he rejoined his Regiment and later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Serving with the 125th Coy he was posted to the Western Front. He was discharged in February 1919.
