Transport Medal EDVII with S.Africa 1899-1902 clasp named (J. R. Douglas.). Served on the (SS) Monterey, for Elder Dempster Co. Born Perth, Perthshire. Believed to be the same J R Douglas awarded the Distinguished Service Medal L/G 1/5/1918 (C.P.O.Mach. 3rd Gr. John Rorrison Douglas O.N. F2154). The SS Monterey transported Lord Strathcona's Horse to the Boer War. RN & RAF service papers, served in the Dardanelles from April 1915 and 'Kassandra' & 'Mudros' from 15/12/16 before returning to the UK. DSM Recommendation - he was a very early flyer, serving under Samson at Gallipoli, then Airships at Mudros and probably Kassandra as well as with a French Seaplane Squadron at the latter place before moving to Salonika and Mespot. With BWM named 30783 Pte D H W Douglas Glouc Regt. With copied research. (1+1)
