A Victorian 1831 pattern Mameluke officer's sword by Hamburger Rogers & Co of 50 King Street, Covent Garden, London with the royal cipher of HM Queen Victoria - VR - etched to the blade. The handle of ivory with remains of cord and knot, the blade well greased and in outstanding order, the scales yellowed with age, gilding missing from guard. Fitted with a likely late 19th century/early 20th century steel scabbard although we believe this was not necessarily the original. The blade has had an edge at some stage although obviously rather blunt now. Scabbard and metal fittings show surface rust. An interesting sword, likely from a Lancer or Hussar officer. Ivory Exemption Certificate Number 5E3FE2MJ
