Three late 19th century fans, all with wood montures, with decorative gilding, the cerise silk leaf, the first embroidered in vibrant colours, with two stitches, designed to produce relief for the colourful birds and blossoms and shading for the branch, the verso in plain black silk, fitted with a decorative tassel in red silk and gold thread, guard approx. 37.5cm; together with a mourning/semi mourning fan, the leaf black silk to the verso and plum to the recto, the monture pierced guard approx 30cm; and a fan in pale wood, the guards polished and shaped as a branch, applied à l’anglaise with a black net leaf over red, sprinkled with gold, finished with a band of red machine lace to the top edge, guard approx. 37cm (3)
Tiny loss to the upper border on the first fan leaf.
A tear to the black side of the leaf, fan 2. The final fan has some slight loss to the net layer. All are strong and serviceable.
