SIEGE OF PARIS - BALLON MAIL "PAR BALLON MONTE" COVER CARRIED OUT OF PARIS ON 11th FLIGHT; Fine 30 Sept. 1870 flimsy-paper "Par ballon monté" EL (typed transcript & translation) from Paris to Le Mans and was eventually carried on the 11th Balloon (the 'Godefroy-Cavaignac') on 14 Oct. (landing - c.465km away from the address - after a 5-hour 257km flight at Brillon which was in Prussian occupied France, but it was forwarded unscathed). It has the 20c Blue (for the maximum 4g weight) tied by the dotted "1" star, and is folded very small as per the official instructions. The letter is written hurriedly by a brother to his younger sister; it concerns the many foods that were already in short supply in the capital and expresses the writer's hope that he will soon see his sister again.
