Charles F A Voysey (1857-1941) Arts & Crafts oak chair frame, circa 1902, of simple design with pierced heart-shaped motif to the splat. Please note this chair is currently in pieces, with damage to the joints, lacking seat and front stretcher. Provenance: by descent from the estate of the late Herbert John Claridge-Turner (1910-1978), a Cheltenham resident. It was commissioned by Sydney Claridge-Turner, the secretary and general manager of the Essex & Suffolk Equitable Insurance Company. Voysey designed and fully furnished Turner's weekend home, The Homestead at Frinton on Sea. From the same estate came a pair of Voysey chairs sold in the Cirencester saleroom by the Cotswold Auction Company for £16,500 in March 2020.
