AIR CRASH MAIL - INDIA/CEYLON/IRAQ: 1943 collection on leaves inc. slightly charred env. ex India to USA franked 2 x 1R + 1a +3a + 8a re-sealed with tape on all sides with "Salvaged air mail Cairo-Karachi/despatch No. 65" typewritten label, with two framed "D.L.O./Bombay" ds's for 24 Aug or 1 Sept. (only 4 recorded); slightly charred p. stat. env. ex India to UK re-sealed with tape on 2 sides carried on BOAC Lodestar which crashed in Cairo with partial purple cachet "SALVAGED MAIL/FROM/[?]" cachet, also env. & Ambulance cover ex Ceylon with similar cachet; charred env. ex India or Middle East franked India 3a with purple "DAMAGED BY FIRE/IN TRANSIT" listed in Nierinck as applied to mail from a Short Sunderland 111 which crashed in Northern Ireland.
