Austro-Hungarian Post Offices in the Turkish Empire. 1874 OHMS Constantinople to Romania cover addressed to Lieutenant Colonel Liborne, 'Her Majesty's Commissioner in the Danube' from Vice Admiral Sir J.R. Drummond, in command of the Mediterranean Fleet from 1874-77. Bearing 1867-83 15sld (x2) cancelled by Constantinople cds (5 May), with Galatz receiving mark on reverse (8 May). Galatz was the seat of the Danube River Commission, an international effort to ensure the free flow of trade along the Danube River. A filing fold along the centre, but otherwise fine. Scarce. (R)
