A FIRST WORLD WAR CASUALTY TRIO TO THE CHESHIRE REGIMENT. A Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 2102 Pte R.D. Eccleston L.Pool R. War Medal and Victory Medal to 2. Liut R.D. Eccleston. Reginald Demilow Eccleston was born on the 16th April 1889 at Birkenhead, Cheshire. He attested for service at Prince's Park barracks for a period of four years with the 1/6th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment. On the 17th February 1914 he applied for a Temporary Commission. Reported as 'sick in the field' on the 8th March but soon returned to service fighting at Hill 60 through continual barrage and gas attacks. As a 2nd Lt he joined the 16th (Service) Battalion (2nd Birkenhead) The Cheshire Battalion, one of the Bantam Battalions. After an intense period of marching and trench duties he became unwell and spent time in hospital. Clearly in a bad state his symptoms were listed as 'Loss of confidence, personal demons, excessive stammering and constant bouts of shivering. Finally declared unfit for service relinquishing his commission on the 24th November 1916. He was issued Silver War Badge 3282. He died at the age of 62 on the 11th July 1951. Mounted for display with single dog tag and copied research.
