Grand Tour 18th/19th Century Warwick Vase in black marble. Height 24cm, maximum width 25cm. The Warwick Vase is a partially restored ancient Roman marble vase with Bacchic ornamentation. Now in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, it was found at Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli around 1771 by a Scottish painter-antiquarian and art dealer in Rome, Gavin Hamilton who sold the fragments to Sir William Hamilton, British envoy at the court of Naples, who had it restored. It passed to his nephew George Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick, hence the name.
