A French ship’s helm marine presentation clock, Paris, 19th century. Modelled as a twelve spoke double helm, mounted with a bejewelled pivot needle compass, the central hub incorporating a clock with Roman numeral enamelled dial and an aneroid barometer with thermometer to the reverse. The helm is supported on a capstan and spring ratcheted bed plate with two capstan poles enabling a 360 degree rotation of the clock and mounted on a rectangular tapered, brass lined French red marble base. Key included. The clock inscribed ‘(?)Fontaine INGr OPTn 18 Palais Royale Paris’ (makers name partially worn). 20.3 cm height, 20 cm width. Condition report: Some age related wear as illustrated.
