A LATE 18TH CENTURY SLOTTED HILT SPADROON.
With an 83cm straight tapering fullered blade with double edged point engraved to either side with VR Cypher beneath a Crown and military trophies. The silver guard hallmarked for London 1793/4, with a wound grip and beehive pommel. The leather scabbard with two silvered iron mounts and single ring suspension.
This type of sword was popular during the American War of Independence and remained popular with Naval officers in particular.
