For an extremely similar chair see the Towneley Hall Museum collection, Burnley, Long Gallery, Bedroom VI. Further examples can be found at Temple Newsam, West Yorkshire, see Oak Furniture from Lancashire and Lake District, Temple Newsam catalogue 1973; and the Lower Hall, Nostell Priory, West Yorkshire. The distinctive similarities in carving and design would indicate manufacture by a particular workshop/group, see V. Chinnery, 'Oak Furniture: The British Tradition', pp. 472-477.
