2nd Hampshire Rifle Volunteers Victorian Other Ranks helmet. A scarce example of the 1881 home service green cloth helmet worn circa 1881-85. The helmet of green cloth with white metal furniture to the front a regimental pattern helmet plate with the title 2nd Hants Rifle Volunteers and central device of a shield charged with the County arms. Complete with chin chain (leather backing absent) and to the interior leather sweatband now dry. The helmet retains a good shape but is now with some age wear. This plate appears to be the only one worn with the helmet. Helmet introduced in 1881. Redesignated 2nd VB on 18th August 1885.
