Great Britain: Middleton & Tonge Cotton Mill Co. Ltd., £10 share, 18[72], #3271, large vignette of the mill in centre, black. Registered 15th March 1860 to erect a cotton mill on land acquired at Tonge, near Middleton, Lancashire. By 1871 3 mills had been built as is shown in this large vignette. After some years in liquidation and attempts at reconstruction the receiver gave instructions for the machinery to be sold at auction in 1914. The huge site at the time contained over 120,000 spindles. VF.
