Royal Interest: Archive of letters, maps and photos related to Major NP Dawnay who provided broadcasting assistance during the Queen's Coronation of 1953. Consists of letters from Whitehall regarding Dawnay's acceptance of the role; printed lists of the procession times and marching representatives; printed maps of the public address and telecommunication systems (3); Commentator's notes; 36 ( believed to be unpublished) photographs of the procession. While the BBC provided the overall coverage of the Coronation procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for television and radio purposes, a chosen group of Whitehall staff including Major Dawnay were each stationed along the route to provide personalised PA commentary to those watching the procession in person.
