Attributed to John Closterman (1660-1711) - A 18th century circa 1705 oil on canvas portrait painting. The portrait depicting Sir Thomas Hoby, 3rd Baronet (1685-1730). Set within a decorative giltwood and gesso frame. Paper label to the verso. Measures approx. 93cm x 85cm. 

Comes with a letter from Lowell, Lisbon and Jonny Yarker Ltd., with their attribution to John Closterman. 

John Closterman (also spelt Cloosterman, Klosterman; 1660 – buried 24 May 1711 was a Westphalian portrait painter of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. His subjects were mostly European noblemen and their families. In 1679, Closterman went to Paris and worked under François de Troy. In 1681, he went to England. He worked for John Riley, painting the draperies in Riley's portraits When Riley died in 1691, Closterman finished several of his portraits.
