British Politics – A collection of 13 letters, mostly from Liberal politicians in the 1880s and 1890s, comprising a letter sent from Balmoral by Francis Knollys, 1st Viscount Knollys, Private Secretary to Edward VII; John Poyntz Spencer, 5th Earl Spencer, on Admiralty headed paper; Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville, on Foreign Office paper; Edward Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby, on Colonial Office paper; George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland, on Stafford House paper, writing about the Highland Railway Company; James Bryce, 1st Viscount Bryce, on House of Commons paper; Francis Hopwood, 1st Baron Southborough, on Board of Trade paper; John Baring, 2nd Baron Revelstoke, of Barings Bank; Sir Wilfred Lawson, 2nd Bt.; Anthony John Mundella, on Privy Council Office paper; William Vernon Harcourt, on Home Department paper; a letter on House of Commons paper, possibly from George Anderson, M.P.; and another letter indistinctly signed, mostly addressed to “Hopwood”, (most likely being Charles Henry Hopwood, Liberal M.P. from 1874-1885 and 1892-1895, but some for Francis Hopwood, 1st Baron Southborough), and some addressed to a “Sir Courtenay”; an envelope signed by Roundell Palmer, 1st Earl of Selborne, and a memo card from Thomas Cecil Farrer, 2nd Baron Farrer, Abinger Hall, Dorking.
