£1,400
A George III 1796 pattern British light cavalry trooper's sabre by Wolley & Sargant, early 19th century (probably made circa 1815 for the 100 Days War culminating in the Battle of Waterloo), the 80cm single edge curved and fullered steel blade lightly engraved and gilded with the Royal Coat of Arms, charging cavalryman and floral and foliate motifs against a patinated ground, maker's name engraved to the top edge, the stirrup hilt with pierced sword knot slit, with wire bound grip and plain pommel, with associated steel scabbard
The hilt guard shows evidence of a soldered repair below the sword knot slit. The wire binding to the grip appears to have stretched in places, but is still attached. The blade is secure in the hilt. The blade shows wear to the patination and engraving. There are a couple of small notches to the cutting edge of the blade. The blade appears to be straight. Weight of sword without scabbard approx 794g.
