1826 proof Crown of King George IV, ex Norweb collection, graded PF 64 by NGC (S 3806, Bull 2336). Obverse: a left-facing bare head bust of George IV by William Wyon with the year (1826) below and a legend around that reads 'GEORGIUS IV DEI GRATIA'. Reverse: crowned and garnished shield of royal arms with 'DIEU ET MON DROIT.' on a ribbon below and 'BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF:' around above, attributed to Jean Baptiste Merlen. Edge: raised lettering reading 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN · ANNO REGNI SEPTIMO'. Grade: PF 64 by NGC, attractive dark tone with blue colouration. Sealed in NGC holder with Ex. Norweb pedigree label (#6674688-001). The vast Norweb Collection was assembled by R Henry Norweb Sr (1894–1983) and his wife Emery May Holden (1895–1984). The Norweb name is associated with exemplary specimens from various periods and places including English coins and tokens of the 17th century and the early medieval period, colonial and federal United States coins and Canadian medals and tokens. Many of the Norweb's coins and tokens were donated to national museums in the 1980s and 1990s, including the British Museum and the Smithsonian. Records were set when the remainder of the collection came to auction with the Norweb pedigree still proving sought-after today.
