1899 QSA 2 clasps OFS, South Africa 1902, 1914-15 Star trio & Memorial Plaque to 10607 Pte G. Horns S. Staff R. (4419 Pte G. Hirons S. Stafford Regt on QSA, George Hiorns on plaque) extremely fine. His correct name is Hiorns and he died of wounds serving with 1st Bn on 4th February 1916 and is buried in Chipilly Communal Cemetery. With original photos of cemetery and headstone, copied MIC, QV service papers, census details etc, he was born in Barford, Warwick, enlisted 10/12/94, served South Africa 18/3/02 to 5/1/03, discharged 9/12/06.
With typed extract from Warwickshire Advertiser dated 26/2/16, "News has reached Barford that Pte G. Hiorns 1st South Staffordshire Regiment has died of wounds received in action. Pte Hiorns also fought in the South African War and he enlisted for the present campaign in October 1914. His age was 39." (R)
