The Bentley S2 was produced by Bentley from 1959 until 1962. The luxurious S2 is best known as the first car to use Bentley’s new 6230cc V8 engine which remains in production to the present day. Successor to the S1, it featured the new Rolls-Royce - Bentley L Series V8 engine and improved air conditioning made possible by its increased output. Power steering was also standard, and a new dashboard and steering wheel were introduced. Some early S2s were built with the earlier S1 dashboard. A high-performance S2-derived Continental edition was also produced.
In all, 1,920 standard and long-wheelbase S2 car chassis were built between 1959 and 1962. Almost all were fitted with standard factory bodywork. A number had coachbuilt bodies by Park Ward, Hooper, H. J. Mulliner & Co., and James Young.
The luxurious Bentley S2 is best known as the first car to use Bentley’s new 6230cc V8 engine which remains in production to the present day. This car has only covered 72k miles and is in good condition all round. It was totally refurbished and upgraded with S3 wings and a new Webasto sliding roof some years ago and has matured a little since but still presents and drives well.
The vendor believes that the car spent most of its life being chauffeur-driven in Bradford and elsewhere. It was originally supplied with private Reg. TC 10 to T Cowie Esq. of Durham and has matching Chassis and Engine numbers of B203BR and 101BB. It has the Rolls Royce 4-speed Automatic and the optional electric windows. The paperwork consists of the latest Service, information of expenditure (headlining, carpeting, and mechanical parts etc), MOTs back to 1996 plus details of early owners and the build sheet copy.
Over the last year it has been used by a local wedding car company but is now surplus to their requirements. Its condition is about the same as it would have been when it was ten years old; everything in place and working but with the odd paint defect signs of wear. It needs no work and like most chauffeur-driven cars has been well maintained, and underneath it is very solid and tidy with no apparent rust issues. There are 4 new Avon tyres and a lovely original handbook.
These S-series Bentleys are now coming into their own. The S2/3 with the V8 engine is fast and surprisingly nippy for a two tonne car (0-60 in 11s) and deserves a better fate than sedate wedding use. They are appreciating fast and this is priced to sell.
