Christopher Dresser for Hukin and Heath, an Aesthetic Movement silver plated tea kettle or teapot on stand, with burner, circa 1878, the domed conical body with conical spout and removable cylindrical strainer, ebonised dowel handle and turned finial, on a tripod stand of three angled rod legs united by a circular ring and triangular low shelf, holding a squat domed burner pan, stamped marks to each, 24.5cm high, stand 18cm wide to each side Note: an early example of Dresser's embrace of Modernism and mechanisation in metalwork, showing the influence of Japanese art and culture, this kettle on stand is an iconic and compact embodiment of his ideologies. It combines the extreme simplicity of a triangular stand constructed of straight rods and plain sheet of metal, with the functionality of an infuser, often used in Japanese tea drinking. Examples of this design are in the collections of the British Museum, London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the RISD, Rhode Island, USA (with an identical back stamp as this eample to each piece), the St Louis Musuem, USA and many other international design museums.
