Sherwood Foresters WW1 Attributed Officer’s Cuff Rank Tunic. A good example, retaining large pattern regimental collar badges, and buttons, also to each cuff Captain rank stars and lace. The left cuff also with the addition of a brass wound stripe. To the left breast medal ribbons of the 1914/15 Star, BWM & VM. The interior pocket with initials “E.A.V.S.” The lining is also tailored with a large field dressing pocket. Overall GC, although the collar badges appear to have been moved during it’s working life (possibly when serving with the Machine Gun Corps) and two buttons have been retailored (one now loose). Stain to the chest ... Accompanied by an original 1930 edition of the regimental history of the 1/5th Bn Sherwood Foresters (2 items) The tunic is attributed to Captain Edward A.V. Smalley who originally served in the ranks of the Notts & Derby before being commissioned into the Regiment, he also saw service with the Machine Gun Corps. He landed in France on the 28th February 1915 and was wounded at Taperinghe. He volunteered for service in Russia fighting along white Russian troops in 1919. He returned to the UK and resigned his commission in 1920. Further research by the vendor confirms he served with the 1/5th Bn Notts & Derby Regiment and includes details of a trench raid in September 1916.
