DR W ROBERTSONS/ VEGETABLE/ BILIOUS/ ANTI SCORBUTIC/ AND GOUT/ DROPS EARLY MEDICINE BOTTLE. 9.4ins tall. Where to start on this truly incredible item standing over twice the height of a standard Daffy bottle? Greeny aqua glass, heavily whittled/ crude in every way - mis shapen, line of bubbles, glass crease/ oozes character! All panels embossed starting on the small right panel, clockwise: Dr W ROBERTSONS/ VEGETABLE/ BILIOUS/ ANTI SCORBUTIC/ AND GOUT/ DROPS. Front panel carries a large shield with three open mouthed beasts within a hand above clutching an upright sword, left thin panel VIRTUTIS/ GLORIA (above the main image)/ MERCES on small right panel - translate to: Glory Is the Reward of Valour. Super crude cross hinge base pontil. Thanks to Jeremy Kemp who advised this product came in quart, pint and half pint capacity and dated c.1830-35 & provided the original advertisements of the day below. Dr Robertson started out in 1805 which would suggest there may be three sizes in black glass lurking somewhere in the ground awaiting discovery - we can but hope? There is an old approx. 3 ins long crack to one panel (see extra Easy Live Auction images) which seems perfectly stable. In essence an incredible & significant offering, a chance of a lifetime.
