A smokebox numberplate, 41974, from an LMS Class 3P 4-4-2T No 1974 built at Derby in 1930, an LMS development of the London Tilbury & Southend Railway 79 Class and built specifically for working passenger services on the former LTSR routes. It spent most of its working life at Shoeburyness before moving to Plaistow in 1947 and then, a long way from its home territory, to Dundee West and Skipton where it spent the last seven years of its life before withdrawal during week ending 12 February 1955. It was cut up at Derby Works during week ending 19 March 1955. A scarce plate, one of only two numberplates from this class to have appeared in auction. The front of the plate has been repainted (Postage Band: D)
