To compete with Volkswagen's Golf GTI, Ford developed a hot hatch version of the Mark III Escort, the XR3. Initially this featured a tuned version of the 1.6 L CVH engine fitted with a twin-choke Weber carburettor, uprated suspension and numerous cosmetic alterations. It lacked a five-speed transmission and fuel injection. Fuel injection finally arrived in October 1982 thus creating the XR3i. The XR3i soldiered on up to the Mark 1V, by which time it had gained a 2.0 litre engine.
This particular car has only 9,000 miles from new with a Complete History to verify the mileage. It is in outstanding condition, as you would expect with this mileage and it is totally original. It has only had two previous owners and one is thought to be a supplying Garage. This car must surely be a, "one off", and if you are a Ford collector, or just looking for a car that is an investment, then this is the car for you.
