A REDDISH-BROWN CARVED DRAGON JADE HUANG 周代 龙纹玉璜 China, Zhou ( 1046-256 BC) Length: 12 cm, Width: 33 cm, Thickness: 0.5 cm This exquisite jade huang features a warm yellow tone with reddish-brown patina throughout, and its flat, semi-circular shape is marked by natural black inclusions inherent to the jade material. The upper part of the jade is intricately carved with a dragon motif, showcasing skilled craftsmanship through fine line engravings and traditional techniques like incising and tube drilling. The design is clear and balanced, with graceful lines and a uniform, natural patina, making it a premier example of jade huang from the Shang-Zhou period.
