Pattern 1887 Mk IV sword bayonet for the Martini-Henry rifle: Dated 1891, with 18 in. double-edged steel blade, clear ricasso markings, steel cross-guard and hilt, black chequered pressed leather grips attached with four rivets, black leather scabbard with steel fittings. In 1891, the existing Enfield Martini experimental bayonets in store were converted to the more conventional Mk I design but can be distinguished by the ricasso showing the date of the conversion, the "C" designation and the original ‘E-M’ marking being scored through. Rare bayonet.
