BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Stephen Aitchison was called up in August 1942 at the age of nineteen and served in the 49th Royal Tank Regiment in 1943. He was injured during Operation Blackcock on 21st January 1945 and returned to action in March during the final stages of Operation Veritable. He was released from military duty on 11th February 1947.
Lennox Aitchison served in the Royal Navy from March 1944 to June 1947, mainly on HMS Mauritius. The scrapbook documents his ship meeting Jewish refugee boats at Haifa, and an incident in the Corfu Channel where two ships struck mines.
