BOOK OF MARTYRS. FOX (or FOXE), John, Acts and Monuments of Matters Most Special and Memorable happening in the Church, with a universal history of the same. Folio, 9th edition 1684, volumes 1 and 2 bound together, lacking volume 3. Lacking portrait frontis and three plates. One folding plate only present, which is defective. Several woodcuts in text. With an inscription at the head of the title page: 'The gift of Mrs Elizabeth Tallents, formerly wife to Mr William Figes of Great Ash, to the Chappel of Tilstock. April 1st 1698 (Tilstock is near Whitchurch, Shropshire). Contemporary panelled calf, remains of original clasps. Sold with all faults, not subject to return.
