Charles Edward Twite was born in June 1921.

While serving as a Corporal in the Royal Airforce, he was granted an emergency commission as a Pilot Officer on 24th November 1942.

Twite, after flight training, spent a period as an Instructor. In June 1944, he was posted to the '12' Operational training unit in preparation for combat sorties. In November 1944, he was posted to 195 Squadron, which Operated Lancaster Bombers, for an operational tour. In April 1945, he completed his tour, having flown 37 sorites, mainly in Lancaster HK-701. By this time, he had flown a total of 1589 hours and 28 minutes in his RAF career.

Many of his sorties were to Germany, with raids to Dortmund, Wiesbaden and Munchen amongst the targets.

On 21st September 1945, his DFC was announced in the London Gazette; it was an end-of-tour award.

In the post-war years he married in 1947 and passed away in 1986.
