Joe Townend, (British b. 1946), LNER A4 Class Locomotive Silver Link 60014 with a Class A3 Engine 60103. oil on canvas, signed lower right, framed. 24 x 30in. (60.9 x 76.2cm.). * Designed by British railway engineer Sir Nigel Gresley and built in 1935, Silver Link operated as an express train from Kings Cross to Scotland including a period as the luxury Silver Jubilee train. Silver Link entered service with a demonstration journey from Kings Cross on 27 September 1935 when it reached a speed of 112.5mph, breaking all previous UK records. These were the racehorses of the East Coast mainline with an enviable reputation for design and performance, Silver Link was scrapped in 1963.. Good condition
