SUPER Star Lot: Fredrick Calvert (Irish, c.1790-1844). An original antique oil on canvas painting by Cork artist Fredrick Calvert titled 'Unloading the Catch'. Depicts one of Calvert's shipping scenes in his typical Romantic style with swirling clouds and turbulent waters. Rendered in loose, dynamic brushstrokes which gives an impressionistic form to the landscape and figures. Housed in an ornate gilt frame. Signed to lower left. Calvert's work has a rich auction history with works fetching upwards of €1500 at Adams.

MM: 46cm x 36cm including frame.

'Frederick Calvert was an Irish artist born in Cork in 1793. He is best known for his small coastal shipping scenes, although his early work concentrated on landscapes. His first exhibited work was in the 1812 exhibition of the Society of Artists of Ireland in Dublin. Three years later he exhibited two works at the Hibernian Society of Artists. Between 1833 and 1844 he was exhibiting at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. He died in Suffolk in 1852.'
