THE ROYAL ASYLUM OF ST ANNE'S, REDHILL, silver Reward of Merit medal, 1884, by W. J. Taylor, St. Anne and young girl, reverse: legend and engraved naming (Alice Jones July 1884), 38mm, war medal-like swivel suspender, in fitted case (by Waterlow & Sons), extremely fine. Established in 1709 'for educating, clothing, and wholly providing for the legitimate children of necessitous persons, from all parts, whether orphans or not, more especially the descendants of parents who have seen better days', the Royal Asylum of St Anne's, moved from Streatham to Redhill in 1881 where it remained until 1919.
