Acting Corporal John George Nichol of Consett County Durham volunteered on the 21st October 1914. and landed in France on the 25th August 1915. He was posted to the 12th Bn during September 1916 he was taken out the line with Shell Shock, but was returned to the Battalion and on the 7th October 1916 during the Battle of Le Transloy was wounded in the right hand. He was wounded again on the 18th June 1917 and transferred to the Labour Corps and was discharged in February 1919
