1839 (Dec 29) Free cover from Dorking to "The York House, Bath" signed by Fitzalan, posted during the 4d Post Period, red Free datestamp (Dec 30). Endorsed "Detained at the York House unknown" then seemingly put back into the post eleven months later with a Bath backstamp of 30 Nov 1840, presumably returned to the sender under cover. Small hole at base of address panel, otherwise fine and very unusual, probably the latest recorded datestamp on any free frank letter.
